At least six people have died after Russia launched hundreds of missile and drone attacks on energy infrastructure and residential targets in Ukraine overnight.
A strike on an apartment building in the city of Dnipro killed two people and wounded 12, while three died in Zaporizhzhia.
In total, 25 locations across Ukraine, including the capital city Kyiv, were targeted, leading to widespread electricity and heating outages. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that major energy facilities in Poltava, Kharkiv, and Kyiv were damaged, but work to restore power is ongoing.
The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched over 450 exploding drones and 45 missiles in the assault, with most intercepted. Despite the damage, critical infrastructure facilities have begun to reconnect, and water services are being maintained using generators.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks and urged global allies for stricter sanctions on Russian energy, emphasizing that attacks on civilian infrastructure should compel a strong international response. He called for "no exceptions" in sanctions against Russia, especially given the impact these strikes have on vulnerable populations as winter approaches.
