A Wedding Shot Down


A missile fired by the US struck a building in southern Iran during a wedding ceremony, killing four people – including a child – according to the Iranian Red Crescent.


The BBC’s Verify team examined footage of the blast and found shrapnel common to American surface‑to‑air missiles. They confirm the munition used was a type used against Iranian targets.


US Response


The US says it is unaware of the report but maintains its strikes target only Iranian military sites. They claim the attack was a retaliatory strike for attempts on American forces and shipping near the Strait of Hormuz.

The incident has spurred calls for tighter control of civilian areas during military operations. Both sides are urged to clarify accountability as tensions rise.
