VICENCOUR SETS IN BLIGHT In Perth last week a verdict on the case of Yung Filly, the 30‑year‑old UK rapper who was charged with raping a 20‑year‑old fan, was delivered by a panel of jurors.
He was found not guilty on the main rape charges, but the courtroom remained heavy with disbelief as the jury also convicted him on two counts of assault that included bodily harm.
The case opened with Yung Filly, born Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, claiming he only “fancied” the woman after meeting her during his music show at a Perth nightclub.
He told the judge he had touched her waist at a hotel then pursued consensual sex, but the victim later told the judge that the rapper had bit, bullied and threatened her.
Despite the grudge, many saw the verdict a relief for the rapper, who swooned when the jury announced he was cleared of rape.
The court will consider how to proceed with the hung three rape counts, while the 20‑year‑old victim's wishes remain confidential.
Through the 21 August sentencing date, Yung Filly will remain on bail as his appeal against the assault convictions is considered.
