In brief
Russian authorities detained an unnamed teenager after the U.S. embassy in Moscow issued a security alert about a potential mass‑casualty event at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve. The FSB said the teen posted TikTok photos in balaclava and an automatic‑fire weapon, and his phone showed searches related to terrorism and a neo‑Nazi Telegram channel. The park was closed temporarily and the Investigative Committee is now weighing legal action.
Russian security forces arrested an unnamed 17‑ year‑old on Sunday in the southern part of Moscow after the U.S. embassy warned of a credible threat of a mass‑casualty event at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) said the teenager had posted photos on TikTok wearing a balaclava, tactical clothing and holding what looked like an automatic weapon. In the videos, he displayed the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve and captioned the images, “I found a place.”
A search of the boy’s home found the clothing and gear shown in the videos. His phone also contained searches linked to terrorist attacks, mass killings and a subscription to a neo‑Nazi Telegram channel, the FSB added.
The U.S. embassy in Moscow issued a security alert on Saturday, urging people to avoid the area and stating it had shared a “credible threat” of a mass‑casualty event. Russian authorities coordinated with the embassy as part of the response.
Because of the warning, the park was temporarily closed on Saturday.
We are grateful to the American side for providing the information,
the FSB wrote in a statement, acknowledging the U.S. cooperation. Russia’s Investigative Committee is now evaluating potential legal action against the suspect.
The U.S. has previously warned Russia about possible attacks, including in March 2024, before an ISIL‑affiliated group carried out a lethal attack at a Moscow concert hall that killed more than 140 people.
