Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma, is in court for alleged terrorism-related charges, which she has flatly denied. The trial has drawn attention as it relates to protests sparked by her father's arrest in 2021.
The protests followed Jacob Zuma's incarceration for ignoring a court order related to corruption allegations from his presidency. According to reports, this protest week resulted in over 300 deaths and massive property damage estimated at around $2.8 billion.
Now, at 43, Duduzile is accused of inciting violence and terrorism through remarks made online during the chaos. Her defense argues that the state's claims are unfounded, viewing them as politically charged and an attempt to undermine her father and his political influence.
While outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court, a small crowd of supporters from her political party gathered, showing solidarity for Duduzile. The Jacob Zuma Foundation has condemned the prosecution as a misuse of power, signaling a deep-rooted political strife surrounding the Zuma family.
