Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has broken the world record for cooking the largest ever pot of jollof rice in Lagos last week. Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement on social media, stating that Ms Baci's creation weighed a staggering 8,780 kg. After nine hours of cooking, the effort was almost jeopardized when the giant pot broke while being hoisted to weigh it; thankfully, none of the rice was lost. Ms Baci expressed her gratitude to her team and supporters, saying, 'This moment isn't just mine... it belongs to all of us.' Despite the challenges, she paid tribute to her hardworking team and emphasized the unity and collective strength that made this achievement possible. This was not her first record; in 2023, she held the title for the longest cooking marathon, showcasing her culinary dedication. The giant dish, made with 4,000 kg of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, 600 kg of onions, and 168 kg of goat meat, was ultimately shared with an enthusiastic crowd, symbolizing not only a personal win for Baci but a celebration of Nigerian culture.
