In brief
The Arab League on Sunday urged an international inquiry into alleged torture and systematic abuses against Palestinian prisoners from Gaza held at Israel’s Ramla Prison. It cited injuries and burns in the Rakevet section, demanded unrestricted access for the Red Cross and medical care for detainees, and labeled the acts as violations of humanitarian law and crimes against humanity. The League also called for the immediate release of sick and wounded prisoners amid a register of over 9,300 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
The Arab League on Sunday called for an independent international investigation into alleged torture and systematic abuses against Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip held at Israel’s Ramla Prison.
According to the League’s statement, several detainees in the prison’s Rakevet section suffered injuries and burns from repeated acts of repression and mistreatment.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office reported that these Gaza detainees had been subjected to repeated assaults, including beatings with batons, tear gas and pepper spray, rubber bullets, and stun grenades.
The League demanded that the International Committee of the Red Cross and other independent monitoring bodies be granted unrestricted access to the facility.
It also called for medical care for injured detainees and the immediate release of sick and wounded prisoners.
"The alleged abuses violated international humanitarian law and constituted ‘crimes against humanity’," the Arab League said in its statement.
The League urged the international community and United Nations bodies to take action to protect Palestinian prisoners and end impunity.
As of October 2026, Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office listed between 9,350 and 9,400 Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails.
The call came on Sunday, November 2, 2026.
These allegations have drawn attention from international observers who are monitoring the situation closely.
If the allegations are verified, they could lead to international legal actions and heightened scrutiny of Israeli detention practices.
The release of evidence and cooperation from Israel would be essential for an impartial investigation.
