Firefighters in Marseille are battling a fierce wildfire that has injured over 100 individuals, with the city’s mayor, Benoit Payan, confirming the situation is improving but still poses a threat. The latest reports indicate that 110 people have been injured, including 31 emergency personnel. Residents were previously advised to stay indoors to allow the first responders clear access to emergency routes.

Despite some restrictions being lifted as the fire's spread diminishes, about 400 residents have been evacuated. Payan described the firefighting efforts as “guerrilla warfare,” with crews working tirelessly against strong winds and steep terrain that exacerbated the situation.

President Emmanuel Macron extended his support to the firefighters while emphasizing the importance of following safety protocols. The firefighting operation involves roughly 800 personnel, with a commitment to continuing throughout the night.

In addition to the fire near Marseille, other regions in France and parts of Spain and Greece are grappling with similar wildfires, fueled by a prolonged heatwave and dry conditions blanketing Europe. Fire crews remain on high alert as they confront these dangerous situations across the continent.
