In a shocking escalation of violence, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, have attacked the city of Nahud in southern Sudan, resulting in the deaths of over 100 civilians, including at least 21 children, as reported by the Sudan Doctors Network. This massacre comes amid a civil war that has seen an alarming rise in casualties, with U.N. officials stating that at least 542 civilians have died in the region over the past three weeks alone.

The RSF claimed responsibility for the attack on Nahud, a strategic city previously held by the Sudanese military, amid ongoing efforts to consolidate their control over Darfur and other regions. Volker Türk, the U.N. human rights chief, condemned the atrocities, noting, “The horror unfolding in Sudan knows no bounds,” and warned of further bloodshed as the conflict heats up.

In addition to the killings, the RSF is accused of looting crucial medical supplies and services, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. The situation in Sudan continues to deteriorate, and concerns grow around the imminent battles that could lead to even higher casualties.
