Israel has reported the killing of Saeed Izadi, a top Iranian military figure believed to have played a key role in planning Hamas's deadly attack on October 7, 2023. The strike took place early Saturday in Qom, south of Tehran, with Israeli officials stating that Izadi was a central orchestrator of the assault that claimed around 1,200 lives and resulted in numerous hostages taken to Gaza.
IDF chief Eyal Zamir declared Izadi's death as a significant security achievement, linking him to the bloodshed experienced by Israelis. Iranians have yet to verify his death and have previously denied participation in the Hamas attack.
The IDF's operations didn't stop there; they also reported killing another Quds Force commander, Behnam Shahriyari, during a drone strike in western Iran. Shahriyari was alleged to be involved in transporting missiles to militant groups in the region, including Hezbollah and Hamas.
These actions come as tensions escalate in the region, with both Israel and Iran launching attacks, including Israel's targeting of military sites in southwest Iran and Iranian claims of an Israeli strike on a nuclear facility. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi cautioned against US involvement in the conflict, suggesting it could escalate tensions further.
The ongoing violence has reportedly resulted in numerous casualties on both sides, with Iranian officials claiming over 430 military deaths while Israeli reports indicated 25 fatalities, including a heart attack victim. As the situation develops, both nations continue to exchange aggressive military actions amid rising geopolitical stakes.
