In a recent development, Roger Nores, a close friend of late One Direction star Liam Payne, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Payne’s father, Geoff Payne. The suit comes in the wake of Liam’s untimely death at the age of 31 in Buenos Aires due to "multiple trauma" and "internal and external haemorrhage." Nores was among five individuals charged in connection with his death, facing accusations of manslaughter related to failing in his duty of care.

Nores contends that Geoff Payne made false statements to Argentine authorities, alleging that Liam was in the care of Nores and his girlfriend due to addictions, a claim Nores disputes. He asserts that their relationship was a "dear mutual friendship," clarifying that he had no legal obligation to care for Liam, who was a fully independent adult. The lawsuit notes that these statements have severely damaged Nores' reputation, prompting him to seek financial compensation, which he plans to donate to Liam's son, Bear, from his relationship with Cheryl.

As the UK inquest into Liam's death awaits a pre-hearing on November 6, the music world continues to mourn his loss.
