In brief

Grenada’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) won 14 of 15 seats in the latest general election, giving the party a decisive majority. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, who led the NDC to victory in 2022, will now move forward with a second term. The landslide result confirms the NDC’s dominance under Grenada’s first‑past‑the‑post system.

Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress won 14 of 15 seats in the general election held on Thursday, Nov. 5, according to the country’s Parliamentary Elections Office.

The announcement, released Thursday night, gives the party a landslide victory and allows Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell to seek a second term.

Grenada uses a first‑pass‑the‑post electoral system, which means the candidate who receives the most votes in each constituency wins that seat. A majority in the House requires at least eight seats.

In the June 2022 election, the NDC had already won nine seats, enabling Mitchell to become prime minister. Now the party holds an even stronger position.

The NDC’s win also beat former foreign‑affairs minister Peter David in the race for the remaining seat.

With 14 seats, the NDC comfortably controls the House of Representatives, giving it the ability to pass legislation and set Grenada’s policy agenda for the next five years.

Prime Minister Mitchell’s victory is expected to bring continuity to Grenada’s political and economic plans, including ongoing development projects and investment initiatives.

The result was confirmed by the Parliamentary Elections Office, which reported that the majority threshold of eight seats was comfortably surpassed.

Experts note that the landslide reinforces the NDC’s political dominance and signals strong public support for its leadership.

As the new legislature convenes, the NDC will focus on strengthening governance, improving public services, and sustaining economic growth for Grenada’s citizens.
