Death Penalty for Thai Woman in Cyanide Murder Case
A Thai woman receives a death sentence after being found guilty of murdering 14 friends using cyanide.
In a shocking case out of Thailand, Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, 36, has been sentenced to death for poisoning 14 friends with cyanide. The case emerged when her friend, Siriporn Khanwong, collapsed and died after sharing a meal with Sararat during a trip in April 2023. An autopsy revealed cyanide in Siriporn's system, leading to Sararat's arrest. Reports suggest Sararat targeted friends to pay off a gambling debt, stealing their valuables afterward. Her trial highlighted additional suspicious deaths dating back to 2015. The court also ordered her to compensate Siriporn's family approximately $57,667. In addition, Sararat's former husband and lawyer received prison sentences for helping her evade justice. Cyanide is a dangerous poison, known for causing rapid heart failure, and its use in Thailand is strictly regulated to prevent misuse.
