Five people have tragically drowned along the eastern coast of Australia due to massive waves as the Easter weekend kicked off. Two others are currently missing in the waters off New South Wales and Victoria.

On Saturday, authorities recovered the body of a man near Tathra, New South Wales. This followed a series of incidents where a 58-year-old fisherman and two other men were found deceased in the same state. Rescuers are still searching for a man who was swept into the ocean near Sydney.

Additionally, in San Remo, Victoria, a woman drowned while a man remains unaccounted for after their group was hit by huge waves. One woman from the group successfully returned to shore. Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan expressed her condolences, emphasizing the tragic nature of these events as the Easter holiday begins.
