Japan’s benchmark Nikkei stock index fell more than 3 percent on Friday morning as artificial‑intelligence and semiconductor shares slid after weak earnings from several U.S. technology companies. At 10:54 a.m. local time, the 225‑issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 1,867.61 points, or 2.89 percent, from Thursday at 62,791.86, according to Xinhua.
The broader Topix index was down 58.54 points, or 1.46 percent, at 3,944.74. Both drops reflected selling pressure on AI‑related and chip stocks that are highly sensitive to earnings reports and global supply‑chain news.
