A tragic mass stabbing occurred in Hollow Water First Nation, Manitoba, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old woman and injuries to seven others. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the suspect, Tyrone Simard, 26, also died following a vehicle collision while fleeing the scene. The attack took place early in the morning, with reports indicating that the victims were all known to each other within the close-knit community. Family members of the victims described the nightmarish scenario, where one of the victims was attacked in his sleep.

The police arrived shortly after an assault was first reported, and further investigations revealed multiple crime scenes within the community. Chief Larry Barker of Hollow Water expressed deep condolences for those affected, and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew commended the bravery of the police officer who intervened during the incident. This incident has revived fears of violence in indigenous communities, recalling a similar tragedy that occurred three years ago in Saskatchewan.
