Walmart has initiated a recall of certain shrimp products in the United States amidst concerns of possible radioactive contamination. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerted the public after detecting a dangerous isotope in shipments of frozen shrimp sold under Walmart's Great Value brand. A sample of breaded shrimp revealed that it contained Caesium-137, although officials noted that this specific sample did not enter the U.S. market. Customers in 13 states, including Alabama, Texas, and Florida, are being urged to dispose of any shrimp purchased from three specific batches.

A Walmart spokesperson emphasized the importance of health and safety, stating they have restricted sales of the affected products and removed them from stores. Shoppers can receive a full refund at any Walmart location for recalled items. The shrimp came from an Indonesian supplier, which has seen several shipping containers blocked from entering the U.S. due to these issues. While the FDA confirmed that no Caesium-137 was found in other shrimp samples, the agency cautioned against potential contamination, urging consumers to remain vigilant about their purchases.
