In brief

Prime Minister Múte Egede emphasizes that while they seek partnership with the U.S., Greenland does not want to be part of America.

---Greenland is making it clear: while they appreciate cooperation with the U.S., they definitely do not want to be bought out! Prime Minister Múte Egede responded to President-elect Donald Trump’s eyebrow-raising suggestion of acquiring the Arctic island by firmly stating, “We’re not for sale.” Instead, he highlighted a desire to strengthen ties, particularly in defense and natural resources. During a press conference in Nuuk, Greenland’s ice-covered capital, Egede stressed the importance of acting wisely as global superpowers vie for influence. He mentioned, “The power struggles between the superpowers are rising and are now knocking on our door.” This was in reaction to Trump’s past remarks about possibly using force to acquire Greenland, a territory of Denmark. While Greenlanders are determined to maintain their sovereignty, Egede's message is clear: they're open for business discussions but not for sale!
