In brief
Ademola Adedeji, a young man from Manchester, was freed after the Court of Appeal found he was misidentified in a video linked to a murder conspiracy. Convicted in 2022, he maintained his innocence as there was no actual murder victim.
In a dramatic reversal, 21-year-old Ademola Adedeji was released from prison on Wednesday, more than two years after being wrongfully convicted of conspiracy to murder. The Court of Appeal in Britain ruled that authorities had misidentified him in a video footage linked to the case, which involved ten young Black men accused of plotting revenge for the death of a friend.Adedeji, who had been serving an eight-year sentence, expressed disbelief at his release, saying, “It doesn’t feel real because this happens one in a million times.” Remarkably, he had no involvement in violence, wielded no weapon, sold no drugs, and even assisted the police during their investigation. Most notably, the case lacked an actual murder victim, raising critical questions about the justice system's handling of evidence. The case has sparked intense discussions around racial profiling and the integrity of law enforcement in the UK, highlighting systemic issues that warrant re-evaluation.
