In brief

On Sunday, Iran declared that Britain’s Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and MI6 were terrorist and hostile entities. The move follows a year‑long dispute in which Tehran accused the UK of violating international law over its anti‑Iran stance. Iran warned of reciprocal consequences for British‑government actions.

On Sunday, Iran’s foreign ministry announced that it would treat Britain’s Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and MI6 as terrorist and hostile entities, a retaliation to what Tehran calls the United Kingdom’s anti‑Iran policies.

The decree was approved by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and will take effect from Sunday, the ministry said. Iran said the UK’s actions during the past year undermine the United Nations Charter and international law, especially the principle of respecting national sovereignty and prohibiting unlawful measures against other states.

Iran cited two main hostile acts: the United Kingdom’s support of a war effort against Iran by allowing its military bases and facilities on British territory to be used, and its designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a “security threat.”

The ministry strongly warned the British government that the measures it adopts will have consequences, and said the UK would bear responsibility according to the principle of reciprocity. It reaffirmed Iran’s determination to safeguard its national security and interests.
