In brief

Vietnam’s total trade between January and October 2026 hit an estimated $1.01 trillion, up 32.3 percent from 2025, driven by a 27.4 percent increase in exports that totaled about $499 billion. The country’s processed industrial products made up more than 87 percent of these exports. In October alone, trade surged 47.6 percent to $122.2 billion and the trade surplus narrowed the ten‑month deficit to roughly $12.7 billion. Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade is now drafting a strategy through 2030 and a vision to 2045 that aims to raise the domestic enterprise share of exports to 40 percent by 2045.

Vietnam’s import‑export trade reached an estimated $1.01 trillion during the first ten months of 2026, a 32.3 percent jump from the same period a year earlier, Xinhua reported.

Exports climbed 27.4 percent to about $499 billion, with processed and manufactured industrial products making up 87.4 percent of the total export value, the ministry said.

In October alone, the country’s trade turnover hit $122.2 billion, up 47.6 percent from last year, and its trade surplus that month was $6.8 billion. Over the ten‑month period, the cumulative trade deficit narrowed to roughly $12.7 billion.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade is drafting a new import‑export strategy that will run through 2030 and a broader vision to 2045. The plan seeks to raise the share of domestic enterprises in national exports to 30 percent by 2030 and to 40 percent by 2045, the ministry said.

The growth in trade turnover and the strategic plan highlight Vietnam’s ambition to strengthen its role in global supply chains and support local manufacturers in a competitive international market.
