A former temple cleaner in Dharmasthala, Karnataka, has been arrested after making shocking allegations that he buried the bodies of hundreds of women who were raped and killed. His claims caused a stir in the small temple town, known for its pilgrimage site dedicated to Manjunatha Swamy, a deity in Hinduism.
The man, whose identity remains confidential, had reported his allegations to the police and even presented a human skull as evidence. However, authorities suspect his claims are fabricated, and he has been arrested for perjury. Despite not naming specific individuals, he accused the temple's administration of being involved.
While some human remains have been found during an ongoing investigation led by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), it's unclear if they correspond to his claims. The temple's chief administrator rejected the accusations as "false," and there's been significant political fallout, with discussions in the state assembly labeling the situation a "smear campaign."
The inquiry continues as the SIT digs deeper, aiming to uncover the truth amidst a swirl of allegations and societal outrage. Home Minister G Parameshwara has emphasized the importance of revealing truth, stating that the investigation is crucial for justice.
