In a surprising turn of events, Donatella Versace, the renowned creative director of the iconic fashion label Versace, is stepping down after an impressive 30-year stint. Since taking over the reins in 1997, following the tragic murder of her brother Gianni, Donatella has crafted countless fashion campaigns and expanded the brand into areas like hotel and car design.

At 69, she will transition to a brand ambassador role while Dario Vitale, a former design director at Miu Miu, takes over her position. This shift comes amid ongoing whispers that Prada Group could be eyeing an acquisition of Versace from its current parent company, Capri Holdings.

In an official statement, Capri Holdings expressed gratitude to Donatella for her visionary leadership and contributions to the brand, revealing that her new focus will be on philanthropic efforts as well as promoting Versace globally.

On Instagram, Donatella reflected on her journey, stating it has been “the greatest honour of my life to carry on my brother Gianni's legacy.”

Keen to uplift new designers, she welcomed Vitale with enthusiasm, showcasing her commitment to the brand that is embedded in her identity. Versace, renowned for dressing stars like Madonna and Lady Gaga, remains a beacon of vibrant fashion since its founding in Milan in 1978.
