MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Federal authorities have arrested Jeremy Wayne Shoemaker from Needham, Alabama, charging him with making threatening calls and texts to rabbis and an imam across the Southern United States. One of the alarming messages included a direct threat stating, 'I want you to die.' Shoemaker has also faced state charges for resisting arrest and illegal possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, Shoemaker initiated threats aimed at a rabbi in Mountain Brook, Alabama, but further investigations revealed he targeted several others, including religious leaders from Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and North Carolina. Law enforcement found alarming items in his home, including weapons, a suitcase packed with ammunition, and lists of names of various religious figures.

Authorities are also aware that Shoemaker has a diagnosed mental illness, which he reportedly refused to medicate. These troubling behaviors have sparked serious conversations about the importance of mental health care and the need for community safety.
