Bondi Beach shooting suspect gets 19 more charges

The 24‑year‑old Naveed Akram, accused of shooting 15 people during a Jewish festival on Bondi Beach last year, now faces 19 fresh charges in addition to the 59 already pending.
The new charges include 10 counts of shooting an armed person with intent to murder, six counts of firing a weapon to resist arrest, and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to kill.
So far the case already involves 15 murders, 40 attempted murders and a tally of 59 charges. The court will hear against Akram again in August, when he has yet to enter a plea.
Investigators from the Joint Counter‑Terrorism Team are still reviewing the evidence, which includes 230,000 CCTV frames and material from multiple devices linked to Akram and his associates.
Akram’s defence lawyer said the extra charges were expected, adding that the case "is a process now that we've got to follow" and that the court will witness an unprecedented amount of material.
The December 14 attack was the worst mass shooting in Australia in nearly 30 years, prompting reforms to gun laws, anti‑hate‑speech legislation and a national commission on antisemitism.
