Rep. Eric Swalwell, a prominent Democrat, has officially launched his campaign for California governor during an appearance on ABC’s 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'.
Swalwell is eager to represent and support Californians, claiming that the state needs a ‘fighter and protector’ to tackle pressing issues, including rising living costs and stagnant wages.
In his announcement, Swalwell expressed his readiness to “bring the fight home,” referencing his longstanding confrontations with former President Trump. He argues that California is 'under attack' from Trump's policies that have militarized communities and hindered essential research.
Swalwell's announcement follows recent attacks from Trump, with the former president criticizing the network and Swalwell on social media. Swalwell's political journey began in 2012 and includes a presidential run in 2020, where he later endorsed Biden.
He joins a competitive field of candidates, which includes billionaire and activist Tom Steyer and others, as they prepare for a critical all-party primary in June.
