According to local authorities, three individuals are currently in a "critical but stable condition" after being fatally stung during the incident. A total of 24 passersby suffered injuries, including one 78-year-old woman who was stung 25 times and required critical resuscitation. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as people desperately tried to fend off the onslaught of bees. A local resident named Andrée recounted, “I could tell they were being attacked but couldn’t see what by.”

In response, police and firefighters cordoned off the area, and a local beekeeper was summoned to calm the bees using smoke. While the mayor of Aurillac suggested that the threat of Asian hornets could have incited this bizarre attack, experts from the regional beekeepers' union cast doubt on this theory. They posited that the bees may have become overly aggressive due to overcrowding in their hive, prompting the unusual and alarming behavior.
