A Minnesota hotel that wouldn’t allow federal immigration agents to stay there this month is apologizing and saying the refusal violated its own policies. The Department of Homeland Security had accused the global Hilton hotel chain of a 'coordinated' effort to refuse service to its employees. Hilton and local operators of the Hampton Inn Lakeville property released statements shortly after the incident. They apologized and clarified that messages refusing to serve the immigration agents did not reflect their policies. In a social media post, DHS posted screenshots of a message sent from a Hilton email address indicating that immigration agents would not be welcome, resulting in canceled reservations. DHS claimed that Hilton Hotels maliciously canceled reservations using official government emails and rates, indicating a deliberate attempt to impede law enforcement operations. Everpeak Hospitality, the hotel operators, also stated that the cancellation was at odds with their welcoming policy. They are in contact with the impacted guests to ensure proper accommodation and stress their non-discriminatory stance.
