The federal government’s investigation into commercial driver’s licenses issued to immigrants has revealed serious concerns in eight states, prompting Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to threaten funding cuts. States like California, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and New York are under scrutiny after several fatal crashes involving unauthorized immigrant truck drivers.

Issues include licenses remaining valid long after an immigrant's legal status expired, leading to calls for audits and revocations of illegitimate licenses. In New York, it was found that over half of commercial licenses reviewed were improperly issued. Similar issues have emerged in Texas, South Dakota, Colorado, and Washington, with officials facing potential funding losses if they do not address the problems.
