Clive Davis, music mogul, passes away at 94
A veteran music executive who helped launch the careers of Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen and many others died this week.

Davis began his career with Columbia Records after studying law. He quickly moved up, becoming president in the 1960s.
He built Arista Records in 1974 and signed artists like Santana, Aerosmith and Patti Smith. The label hit a surge when Santana released the 1999 album Supernatural.
In 1983 he signed teenage Whitney Houston. Years of dedication led to a global million‑sold debut and a record‑breaking cover of “I Will Always Love You.”
Springsteen remembers Davis as a mentor: he urged the singer to move around on stage and keep the music alive. Without this push, Springsteen’s biggest hits might never have seen the light.
Later in his career Davis launched J Records, bringing Alicia Keys and Maroon 5 to the mainstream. He stayed active as a Sony music chief creative officer.
The music world mourns a man whose eye for talent reshaped pop, rock and hip‑hop. His legacy lives on in the songs that soundtrack our lives.
