Knicks’ Historic Win Triggers Wild NYC Chaos

The New York Knicks won the NBA title for the first time since 1966, sending fans into a frenzy across the city. The spontaneous street parties soon turned into a chaotic scene, with reports of gunfire, five school buses burning, and a 17‑year‑old teen shot in the foot.

Police officers were struck by bottles and the traffic police cruiser was battered by a bat, while around 10 officers were injured overall. Authorities announced that 63 people were arrested, with charges ranging from assault on a police officer to criminal possession of a weapon.

The situation escalated after celebratory crowds spilled into Midtown Manhattan. While some clubbing fans sparked fireworks, police said the crowd’s “reckless and dangerous” behaviour demanded a swift response.

Despite the violence, the city’s mayor announced a formal celebration with a parade and a city‑hall ceremony on Thursday, hoping to bring the big‑screen joy back to safer streets.
