Imran Khan hospital arrival

Imran Khan, the former Pakistani prime minister, has been moved from Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad following a Supreme Court order. The transfer was demanded after his lawyers highlighted serious health issues, including loss of vision.

The three‑judge panel ruled that Khan must be examined by physicians within 48 hours, citing the legal obligation to safeguard the life, health, dignity and security of prisoners.

Khan has been imprisoned since 2023 on corruption charges, which he claims are politically motivated. He faces more than 100 pending cases and sits on a 17‑year sentence with his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Authorities warned support groups not to gather outside the hospital, as that would breach the court order. The move illustrates the ongoing tension between Pakistan’s political factions and judicial authority.
