The ambitious $500 million Trump hotel project in Serbia is facing serious hurdles after a scandal involving forgery surfaced. Reports reveal that an official document, vital for the project's approval, was fabricated. The hotel, planned to rise on the site of a former Defense Ministry building in Belgrade, has been thrown into chaos as Serbian officials investigate the matter.

The Serbian agency responsible for preserving cultural heritage announced that Goran Vasic, its leader, admitted to forging a crucial document that enabled the government to consider demolishing a historic site for this luxurious complex. The project includes a Trump International Hotel, which would mark its debut in Europe.

Serbian authorities had previously approved the development, even prior to officially lifting the site's protections. The Office of the Prosecutor for Organized Crime confirmed that Vasic forged expert opinions to justify the demotion of the building's cultural status following NATO's bombing in 1999, highlighting the severity of this breach of trust.
