In a bold move, President Trump has announced a new travel ban affecting individuals from 12 countries, primarily across Africa and the Middle East, starting on Monday. The countries included in the ban are Afghanistan, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Additionally, there are partial restrictions placed on travelers from other nations like Burundi, Cuba, and Venezuela.
The administration has framed this extensive ban as a necessary measure to safeguard national security. Notably, this isn’t Trump's first attempt to impose travel restrictions; during his first term as president, he previously instituted a ban on multiple predominantly Muslim countries.
In related news, Trump claimed that during a recent call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the discussion about Ukraine was productive but did not hint at an immediate path to peace following a significant drone attack by Ukraine over the weekend. However, he did not mention any efforts he made to persuade Putin against further aggression.
