Ukraine has hit a Russian chemical plant with Storm Shadow missiles, its military confirmed on Tuesday. This UK-made long-range weapon successfully penetrated Russian air defenses, and Ukraine's armed forces deemed it a 'successful hit.'

The strike targeted the Bryansk Chemical Plant, identified by Ukraine as a critical component of Russia's military-industrial complex due to its production of gunpowder and rocket fuel for weaponry used against Ukraine.

Ukraine's military stated, 'The Bryansk Chemical Plant is a key facility of the aggressor state's military-industrial complex,' stressing the importance of neutralizing it to weaken Russia's war capabilities.

In response, the Kremlin has warned Western nations against supplying Ukraine with long-range attack capabilities.

The strike occurred on the same day that UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and other European leaders reiterated their intention to increase pressure on Russia economically and militarily until President Putin is ready to negotiate peace.

Subsequently, Russia launched an air attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, with explosions reported as air defenses engaged. This escalation comes amidst ongoing discussions about military support and the possibility of peace talks.

Note: Russia's invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, with significant territories currently under Russian control.
