The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have announced a renewal of their Netflix deal to create films and television shows, described as a "multi-year, first look deal." This new agreement allows Netflix the first option on projects produced by their Archewell production company, showing that the Sussexes are not completely parting ways with the streaming giant, despite speculation.
Meghan expressed excitement for the collaboration, saying it inspires them to "create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally." However, details about the length of the contract or its financial terms remain a mystery. Their previous deal, made in 2020, was estimated to be worth around $100 million.
This announcement comes ahead of the premiere of the second series of "With Love, Meghan," a lifestyle cooking series launching later this month. Previous audience figures indicated that although the first series garnered 5.3 million views, it didn't make the top 300 most popular shows on Netflix. In comparison, their earlier documentary, "Harry & Meghan," attracted 23.4 million viewers upon its release.
In addition to the new season of "With Love, Meghan," Archewell has revealed a special Christmas edition of the series and a new show titled "Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within," which will highlight an orphanage in Uganda. Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, praised Harry and Meghan as influential voices, highlighting the success of their documentary series.
