It's Election Day in the US.

This so-called 'off year' election doesn't feature presidential or congressional races, but there are still several critical votes to watch tonight.

New York City will choose its next mayor, in a battle between a younger, progressive Democrat and a member of the party's old guard. Virginia and New Jersey will elect new governors, and the outcomes could predict trends for next year's congressional midterm elections.

Californians will also decide on redistricting US House maps as Democrats push back against Republican advantages.

New York City Mayor's Race

All eyes will be on the Big Apple as Zohran Mamdani, 34, attempts to become the youngest mayor in over a century. Mamdani, a democratic socialist, is up against former governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent after losing the primary. If successful, Mamdani would be the city's first Muslim mayor.

California Redistricting

California's leaders are asking voters to redraw state congressional districts mid-decade, which is an unusual move aimed at counteracting Republican redistricting in other states.

New Jersey Governor's Race

In New Jersey, a tight race between Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli is underway, reflecting the current political climate.

Virginia Governor's Race

Virginia's election also aims to elect its first female governor, with Abigail Spanberger (D) and Winsome Earle-Sears (R) as front-runners.

The Trump Factor

Although not on the ballot, Trump’s influence is felt throughout, especially in New York City's race where he has warned against a Democrat win. His endorsement of Ciattarelli in New Jersey and redistricting issues in California shows his continuing political impact.
