ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — After spending two nights in jail, fired Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is set to be arraigned amid an ongoing police investigation related to an alleged assault. Moore, 39, was dismissed on Wednesday for what the university deemed an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. The following hours found him in police custody, although authorities have yet to provide detailed information regarding the circumstances of Moore's arrest.

Pittsfield Township police confirmed they responded to allegations of an assault, further confirming a person was taken into custody. The university has not disclosed specifics about Moore's alleged misconduct but stated credible evidence exists against him.

As a married father of three young daughters, Moore's behavior is described as a stark violation of university policy according to Athletic Director Warde Manuel. Moore had signed a lucrative five-year contract worth $5.5 million annually last year, but the university won't need to pay him for the remaining term as he was let go for cause.

Having just led the Wolverines to a national title and succeeding Jim Harbaugh, Moore's abrupt exit raises concerns about the future of the program. With a Citrus Bowl appearance scheduled against No. 14 Texas, interim coach Biff Poggi must navigate uncertainties, including potential player transfers and donor support.
