NEW ORLEANS, La. – A significant security operation is set to begin in New Orleans as 350 members of the National Guard are deployed ahead of the New Year's celebrations. Authorized by President Trump, this move aims to bolster safety measures after a tragic attack last year that resulted in 14 fatalities on Bourbon Street.

This deployment follows successful National Guard missions in various U.S. cities earlier in the year. New Orleans officials stress that this is a proactive measure to provide an added layer of security for both residents and tourists. Police spokesperson Reese Harper reassured the public that the Guard's presence is strictly for safety, not immigration enforcement.

The additional troops will focus their efforts primarily in the French Quarter, a bustling area known for its vibrant festivities. Louisiana National Guard spokesperson Lt. Col. Noel Collins indicated that the deployment will enhance local law enforcement's capabilities and help stabilize the environment leading up to the busy Carnival season.

In total, over 800 officials from various law enforcement agencies will be on duty, conducting bag checks and traffic control to ensure public safety during the celebrations. This heightened security is a direct response to last year's events, where an individual drove into a crowd, leading to catastrophic results. As the city prepares for another New Year's celebration, residents and visitors alike can expect a visibly increased law enforcement presence and proactive measures to ensure their safety.
