OpenAI Pitches AI Cyber‑Defence to Ukraine
AI giant OpenAI is giving the Ukrainian government a free, state‑of‑the‑art cyber‑defence system called Daybreak.
Daybreak can scan digital systems, find weak spots, and suggest fixes—everything in real time.
Why it matters: Ukraine logged almost 6,000 cyber‑attacks in 2025, hitting hospitals, power grids and other vital services.
OpenAI will also supply Ukraine with GPT‑5.6, a new AI model that rivals Anthropic’s Mythos and Fable.
“Protecting civilian infrastructure means defending it against both physical and digital attacks,” says George Osborne, OpenAI’s head for countries.
Security experts say the move could be a powerful boost for Ukraine’s already heavy cyber‑defence workload.
Experts note that while frontier AI can help defenses, it can also be misused by attackers.
OpenAI’s entry comes as UN talks on AI regulation gather momentum, with leaders like Sam Altman speaking at the General Assembly.
