In a historic move, the Chinese Navy has launched two aircraft carriers, the Liaoning and the Shandong, into the Pacific Ocean for joint military exercises, signifying a shift in naval strategies. Japan’s Defense Minister, Gen Nakatani, reported that these vessels were spotted operating east of Iwo Jima, around 750 miles from Tokyo. This marks the first instance of both carriers operating together outside Japan's territorial waters, breaking through what China refers to as the First Island Chain. The powerful demonstration is seen as an effort to challenge both Japan and the United States for dominance in the region. The presence of these ships, although smaller and less equipped than American carriers, puts significant pressure on military dynamics, prompting Japan to bolster its own naval capabilities by developing new aircraft carriers designed for modern warfare.

China’s maritime ambitions are clearly growing, positioning them as a formidable force in the Pacific.
