Ransom note claims Nancy Guthrie died after abduction
A ransom note sent a few days after 84‑year‑old Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her Tucson home allegedly stated she had died, according to investigators.
The first note demanded millions of bitcoin for her release and was addressed to her daughter, NBC host Savannah Guthrie, while another appeared on February 6, apologizing for her death and saying it was inadvertent.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI say the case remains active, and have not confirmed whether Nancy is alive or deceased. The family has offered up to $1 million for information leading to her return.
Savannah Guthrie called for anyone with details to come forward in a tear‑jerking appearance on Today, urging the public to review security footage and seek clues.
Law‑enforcement officials have urged media to withhold the content of the ransom notes until investigations progress, fearing any leaks could hamper the search.
The case has drawn national attention, with broadcasters, reporters, and even former U.S. President Donald Trump expressing concern over the disappearance.
A video released by authorities in February shows a masked figure outside Nancy’s home, while investigators are scrutinizing footage for other potential leads.
