A suspect in the fatal shooting of prominent Ukrainian politician Andriy Parubiy has been arrested, the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky has said. The 54-year-old parliamentarian was killed by an attacker posing as a courier in the western city of Lviv on Saturday, sparking a manhunt.

Ukraine's interior minister Igor Klymenko stated in a Monday morning update that the suspect had been detained in the Khmelnytskyi region. Klymenko mentioned that the preliminary investigation indicated the killing was 'carefully prepared,' with the shooter's knowledge of Parubiy's travel schedule and an identified escape plan. Zelensky also revealed that the suspect has provided initial testimony.

Footage from the scene, which remains unverified, allegedly shows the assailant, disguised as a courier, approaching and shooting Parubiy in the street. Police confirmed the attacker fired approximately eight shots. The delivery service Glovo, whom the attacker had impersonated, expressed their shock over the incident and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

Parubiy was a critical figure during Ukraine's Euromaidan protests in 2013 and 2014, advocating for closer ties with the European Union and playing a significant role in the opposition to then-President Viktor Yanukovych. He served as the speaker of the parliament from April 2016 to August 2019.
