S.A. Special Forces Face Charges: Detective’s Mystery Uncovered
South Africa’s top detective, Lt. Col. Frans Mathipa, met his death on a Pretoria motorway in August 2023. He was shot while driving a BMW that had been followed by a military vehicle registered to a front company of the Special Forces.
Police documents show that the men who were in the vehicle were named and identified as members of the Special Forces. However, they deny anything to do with the drawing. They have been charged with murder, fraud and obstruction.
The investigation also digs into a case involving an Ethiopian man, Abdul Abdiga, who was allegedly taken by Special Forces earlier. His disappearance, and the killing of a bodyguard, are still being explored.
The case sparked a broad scramble. The South African army has refused to hand over evidence. The trial is still pending, and some of the accused are still in jail or under bail revocation orders.
For the fans watching, the story has turned into a mystery video series, but the core question remains: who really killed or protected the detective? The police say the Special Forces commanded the unit and used powerful weapons to shoot the detective.

Mathipa’s daughter, Basetsana, says he was “doing his job” and that justice is needed. The world waits to see the outcome of this painful and controversial case.
