Sweden court hands over four‑year jail sentence after abuse case

A 61‑year‑old man in Sweden was found guilty of coercing his wife into 120+ sexual encounters with men. The court said he used threats, drugs and home cameras to keep her under his control and forced her to agree to the arrangements for a fee.

He was also convicted of attempted rape, aggravated pimping, assault and unlawful threats. The court denied his claim that the meetings were consensual.

In addition to the man’s sentence, 28 other men were convicted of buying sexually‑based services, with two receiving prison time and the rest getting suspended or probationary orders.

The judge ordered the defendant to pay 200,000 krona (~£15,900) in damages to his wife for the harm caused.

The case has drawn attention to the severe tactics used to exploit a spouse and the importance of safeguarding victims. It also shows how the Swedish legal system addresses coercion and sexual exploitation.
