A 52-year-old fisherman, Dean Nyirenda, tragically lost his life after being attacked by a crocodile while fleeing a herd of elephants in eastern Zambia. According to local police, Nyirenda was returning from a fishing trip with two friends when they encountered the elephants near the Luangwa River. In a panic, the men ran, and Nyirenda jumped into a nearby stream to escape. Unfortunately, it was there that a crocodile bit his right thigh. Reports state that he bravely managed to fend off the crocodile with a stick but sustained severe injuries. Despite efforts from his friends to stop the heavy bleeding and get him to safety, he succumbed to his wounds before help arrived. This incident is a stark reminder of the frequent and dangerous interactions between wildlife and humans in Zambia, where conflicts are reportedly on the rise.
