The White House has had a productive and constructive meeting with Dario Amodei, CEO of AI firm Anthropic, which has been involved in legal disputes with the U.S. Department of Defense.
This meeting took place shortly after Anthropic unveiled Claude Mythos, its latest AI tool designed to excel in cybersecurity tasks. The tool is said to have capabilities that can surpass human performance in identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities in computer systems.
During the discussions, leaders included Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. While Anthropic declined to provide comments on the meeting, the dialogue suggests a shift from previous negative remarks from the administration, which once referred to the company as a radical left, woke company.
The meeting is part of an effort to explore collaboration opportunities and develop protocols that address the challenges accompanying advanced AI technologies. We discussed opportunities for collaboration, as well as shared approaches and protocols to address the challenges associated with scaling this technology, the White House stated.
Despite a complex relationship with the government, evidenced by previous government bans on Anthropic's AI tools, it appears that the significance of their technology may compel a shift towards cooperation rather than opposition.
