In brief
A deadly storm left nine fishermen stranded off Andhra Pradesh’s coast. Four bodies have been recovered near Kothapatnam, but five others are still unaccounted for. Local officials and the Indian Coast Guard are coordinating search efforts with Tamil Nadu authorities.
In the wake of Cyclone Murasu, four fishermen’s bodies were recovered near Kothapatnam beach in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. The men had set out on a fishing trip on Oct. 29 in a boat that capsized about two kilometres from the shore, according to a local government official.
All nine men aboard the vessel were from Tamil Nadu. Three of the bodies were found washed ashore, while the fourth was pulled from the sea by Coast Guard officials. Five fishermen remain missing as rescue teams continue to search.
Senior government official Raja Babu said his team was in touch with counterparts in Tamil Nadu about the missing fishermen and that efforts are underway to locate them.
"We are working closely with Tamil Nadu authorities to find the missing fishermen," said Raja Babu.
The Indian Coast Guard and local authorities are conducting coordinated search operations along the Andhra coast. The findings are being monitored closely as the region remains battered by the cyclone’s aftereffects.
