LEAVENWORTH, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say they have found remains they believe are Travis Decker, an ex-soldier wanted in the deaths of his three daughters, in the mountains of Washington state.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office stated that a DNA analysis will confirm the identification as they process the site with the assistance of the Washington State Patrol crime scene response team.
Travis Decker, 32, was reported missing since June 2, when authorities discovered his truck and the bodies of his daughters—Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5—at a campground outside Leavenworth. He failed to return them to their mother three days earlier.
The search involved over 100 officials from various state and federal agencies scouring hundreds of square miles. The U.S. Marshals Service offered a reward for information leading to his capture.
Authorities noted that an autopsy revealed the girls died from suffocation as they were found bound with zip ties and plastic bags over their heads.
In a petition, Decker's ex-wife had mentioned worsening mental health issues, pushing for limited access to their daughters.
