In brief

After a lifetime of service and guilt, Hill's legacy is forever marked by his bravery.

Clint Hill, the courageous US Secret Service agent who famously jumped onto John F. Kennedy's limousine amid gunfire in Dallas, has passed away at the age of 93. Hill's heroic actions on November 22, 1963, while protecting Jackie Kennedy, have been immortalized in historical photographs and the Zapruder film that documented the tragic event.Originating from North Dakota, Hill served in the Army before joining the Secret Service in 1958. Assigned to Mrs. Kennedy on the day of the assassination, he heard the first shot while trailing their limousine. Without hesitation, he rushed towards the moving vehicle, risking his own life in an attempt to shield the President and his wife. Though awarded for his service, the trauma of that day haunted him for decades.Following his retirement in 1975, Hill often expressed feelings of guilt over not being able to prevent the assassination. In interviews, he conveyed a deep sense of responsibility, believing that had he reacted slightly faster, he might have changed the outcome. In his later years, Hill found solace in writing. He co-authored "Mrs. Kennedy and Me," a memoir about his relationship with Jackie Kennedy, with journalist Lisa McCubbin. The couple eventually married in 2021. Hill died peacefully at home in California, surrounded by love, leaving behind a remarkable story of bravery, trauma, and redemption.
